Nagpur: A bizarre incident at the newly built AC waiting hall of Nagpur Railway Station has exposed gaps in passenger amenities amid the station’s ongoing redevelopment.A 63-year-old passenger from Vijayawada, identified as Kantipudi Venkat, was waiting for his train when the incident occurred around 4.45pm on Friday.Venkat reportedly slipped while using the washroom in the facility, developed as part of the station redevelopment project, causing his leg to get trapped inside an Indian-style toilet seat.Hearing his cries for help, passenger amenities supervisor Atul Shrivastava and other railway staff rushed to the spot. The staff eventually broke the toilet seat to free his leg, during which he sustained injuries. After receiving first aid at the station, Venkat was shifted to Kingsway Hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable, according to railway and RPF personnel.Sanjay Mule, Public Relations Officer of Central Railway’s Nagpur Division, said Venkat’s family had been informed, and his son had left Vijayawada for Nagpur.Following the incident, the toilet in the AC waiting hall near the Itarsi-end of Platform No. 1 has been temporarily shut.
