Buxar: For the past eight years, Krishna Sharma (34) of Pratapsagar village in Buxar has emerged as a lifeline for road accident victims along the Patna-Buxar National Highway (NH-922). Popularly known as “Ambulance Sharma”, the transporter and furniture shop owner has helped save more than 1,200 injured people by ensuring they receive timely medical treatment.Krishna provides free ambulance services to poor and critically injured patients, transporting them from Buxar to hospitals in Patna and Varanasi. Locals said he often reaches accident spots even before police teams after receiving information through a network of local contacts.His humanitarian mission began after the death of his mother, Phool Kumari Devi, on Oct 2, 2018. She died because an ambulance could not be arranged in time after suffering a heart attack. Deeply affected by the tragedy, Krishna bought an ambulance with his savings the following month and dedicated himself to helping accident victims.“My mother died because timely medical help was not available. That pain changed my life forever. I decided that no one should lose their life due to lack of an ambulance,” Krishna said.Stating that the blessings of the people he helps are his biggest reward, Krishna said, “Through this service, I pay tribute to my mother every day.”He said he receives nearly 100 calls daily from people seeking help or expressing gratitude. His father, Basant Sharma, continues to support his mission.Recalling a turning point in his life, Krishna said he once saw an injured man lying helpless on the roadside while passersby ignored him. “That day, I promised myself that I would never ignore a person in distress. The death of my mother had already tormented me,” he said.Dumraon SDM Rakesh Kumar praised Krishna’s work. “Krishna Sharma is selflessly dedicated to serving humanity, which is truly commendable,” he said.Several accident survivors also credited Krishna with saving their lives through timely assistance.
