Gurgaon: After an unusually cool start to May, temperatures in in the city are set to rise sharply over the next four days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds from May 11 onwards.According to IMD’s Chandigarh centre, weather conditions are likely to remain dry across Haryana till May 10. However, isolated places may receive light to moderate rain between May 11 and 14 under the influence of a fresh western disturbance. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40kmph are also likely during the period.Gurgaon recorded a maximum temperature of 33.5 degrees Celsius at the AWS station on Friday, while Gurgaon KVK recorded 34 degrees Celsius, and NorthCap University station recorded 35.5 degrees Celsius.The city’s minimum temperature hovered around 20 degrees Celsius, remaining below normal for this time of the season following recent rain and thunderstorm activity across NCR.Across Haryana, Sirsa was the hottest at 39.6 degrees Celsius, while several districts, including Hisar, Rohtak and Bhiwani, recorded temperatures above 36 degrees Celsius. IMD said the average maximum temperature in the state rose by 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day, though it still remained appreciably below normal by 4.7 degrees Celsius.The weather department has forecast a rise of 5-6 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures across Haryana over the next four days before another spell of weather activity begins next week. No significant change is expected thereafter.IMD has issued a yellow alert for Haryana and Chandigarh from May 11 to 14 for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at isolated places.Meteorologists said the recent spell of rain had temporarily suppressed temperatures across north India, but dry weather conditions over the next few days are expected to push up daytime heat before another western disturbance triggers rain and gusty winds from May 11 onwards.
