Patna: Patna University (PU) will open its admission portal on Saturday for receiving online applications for admission to the undergraduate programmes in its constituent colleges for the academic session 2026-27. The last date for the online submission of applications is May 30.The details of the admission process were discussed at a meeting of the principals and the university officials held on Thursday under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Ajay Kumar Singh. It was decided that admission to the four-year degree programmes would be held as per recommendations of National Education Policy, 2020. For the first time, PU will be utilizing Samarth portal for receiving the online applications and completing other processes of admission this year.PU students’ welfare dean Kameshwar Pandit said that there will be no entrance test for admission to regular four-year degree programmes. The applicants will be admitted on the basis of marks obtained in Class 12 ( Plus two or intermediate) examinations conducted by Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or the Council of Indian School Certificate Examination (CICSE).He said the marks scored under all these boards will be treated on equal footing and a combined faculty wise selection list will be prepared on the basis of marks and choice of the institution. Students desirous of studying honours courses in science subjects may indicate their choice for Patna Science College, B N College and Magadh Mahila College. For studying honours courses in humanities and social science subjects, a candidate may indicate his or her choice for Patna College, B N College, and Magadh Mahila College. For studying commerce, Vanijya Mahavidyalaya is the only choice for them under conventional courses.There are altogether 4,531 sanctioned seats in undergraduate programmes (both regular and self-financial modes) in all the colleges of PU.The dean further pointed out that admission to some self-financing and professional courses will be made on the basis of entrance tests as provided in their admission regulations. The entrance test for Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) will be held on June 12 , while the test for admission to the LLB (3-year) LLB (5-year), BBA, BCA and B Lib Science will be held on June 13. The entrance test for admission to BMC, functional English and environment science will be held on June 14.The last date for admission to all the undergraduate programmes is July 7. Induction meet for the newly admitted undergraduate students will be held on July 10 and their classes will start on July 11, the dean added.
