Kanpur: A seminar/awareness campaign on the subject of balanced use of fertilizers was organized under the joint auspices of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dilip Nagar, operating under Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology Kanpur, and the Indian Institute of Pulse Research (IIPR).At the programme, soil scientist Khalil Khan placed special emphasis on the importance of effective weed management for increasing fertilizer use efficiency. Scientist C.P. Nath also discussed nutrient losses caused by weeds. In addition, topics such as crop diversification with pulse crops, use of green manure, need-based fertilizer application, proper use of urea, direct-seeded rice, and residue management were also highlighted.Furthermore, Neetu Kushwaha and Ranjita discussed the role of disease management in enhancing crop productivity and nutrient use efficiency. Arun Kumar Singh and Rajesh Rai made farmers aware about the use of biofertilizers and organic manure.Farmers were trained on the correct selection of herbicides, appropriate dosage, timing and method of application, and measures to protect crops from damage and prevent environmental risks.Village head Chandra Pal interacted with the farmers and appreciated the efforts of scientists in making them aware of various agricultural programs. Praising the initiative, he said that the programme has effectively reached the farmers and their active and enthusiastic participation is also commendable.The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by a farmer Anurag Singh. A total of 37 farmers participated in this programme.
