Hyderabad: Two minor girls aged eight and five were abandoned by their parents at the Thimmapur police station in Karimnagar district on Monday over frequent marital disputes.Karimnagar police identified the parents as Lalitha and her husband Ravi Kumar. “For the last several months, the relationship between the couple was strained. Lalitha later moved from Karimnagar to live with her parents in Nizamabad,” police said.“A month ago, Lalitha approached police, accusing her husband Ravi of domestic violence. Later, the couple had a meeting in the presence of elders after which he agreed to take her back home in 15 days. However, he did not keep his word,” police said.“On Monday, Lalitha again approached the police, after which Ravi was summoned to the station. While they were being counselled by police, Lalitha got up in a huff and said she was fed up with her marriage. Declaring that she no longer wanted to remain with her husband nor with her children, she removed her ‘mangalsutra’ and toe rings, placed them on a table, and walked out of the police station. Moments later, Ravi followed suit, abandoning both children at the police station,” a police official said. The two children were left distraught and were crying inconsolably throughout, officials said.Police officials then contacted Ravi’s parents, who arrived at the police station and took custody of the children. While Ravi runs a grocery store, Lalitha works as a nurse. Financial problems are said to be the main reason for the couple’s marital discord. While no case has been registered yet, police said they are considering summoning the couple again for counselling.
