Amritsar: Amritsar police have suspended a traffic policeman after allegations of harassment by devotees visiting the Golden Temple went viral on social media.The incident allegedly took place during vehicle checking at a naka at Ram Talai chowk. A family from Thoba village, who had come to offer prayers and celebrate the purchase of a new vehicle, was returning home when two traffic police personnel stopped them for a document check. The family claimed they cooperated fully and produced all required papers.They alleged that the policemen accused them of multiple traffic violations, each carrying hefty fines, and also claimed that Rs 500 was taken from them during the checking.After a video highlighting the allegations surfaced on social media, ADCP (Traffic-Amritsar) Amandeep Kaur said one of the personnel involved has been suspended and a departmental inquiry ordered. She said strict action would be taken if the allegations are found to be true.
