Chandigarh: The UT police have stepped up their anti-drug drive, registering 96 FIRs and arresting 98 persons in drug- and arms-related cases since the special campaign was launched on Sept 11.During the crackdown, police recovered 570.7g of heroin, 4g of Ice drug, 1.2kg of ganja, 15 injections, 12 ‘kamanidar’knives and a hookah. Another 296 persons were detained as part of preventive checks.On Sept 19 alone, police registered 11 FIRs and arrested 11 accused, recovering 30g of heroin and two kamanidarknives. Twenty-three persons were also detained during checking and search operations conducted across the city.As part of the campaign, police have been verifying the activities and movements of past offenders and those previously linked to drug-related cases. Search operations are also being carried out at identified drug hotspots and vulnerable locations, including abandoned buildings, houses, jungle areas and colonies, based on intelligence inputs.In a parallel outreach effort, DGP Sagarpreet Hooda, SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, SDPOs and SHOs interacted with residents’ and market welfare associations in Manimajra, Sarangpur, Maloya, Khuda Ali Sher and Bapudham Colony to gather feedback and address local concerns.SSP Kanwardeep Kaur also led search operations in Dadumajra, Dhanas, Maloya, Bapudham Colony, Ram Darbar Phase II and Mauli Jagran, including visits to the residences of suspected drug peddlers.Police said action against drug suppliers, peddlers, repeat offenders and others allegedly linked to the narcotics trade would continue, while urging residents to share information about drug-related activities in their neighbourhoods.
