T’puram: Rural Police on Thursday arrested two men and seized around 90kg of ganja from a specially modified chamber in their car at Kattakada.The arrested were identified as Akhil, 32, and Subeesh, 33, both of Vellarada. They were intercepted by Dansaf and Aryancode Police near Emmanuel College, Vazhichal, Kattakada on Thursday.The police said the operation was launched based on a tip-off received by Rural SP Prasanth Kani. The Dansaf team had reportedly kept the two men under surveillance for nearly a month before intercepting their vehicle.Officials said the police initially searched the car but could not locate the contraband. During a detailed inspection, however, the team detected a specially constructed chamber at the bottom of the vehicle. Multiple packets concealed inside the secret compartment were subsequently recovered, with the total quantity estimated at around 90kg.According to the police, the accused had allegedly procured the ganja from Andhra Pradesh and transported it to Kerala through Tamil Nadu. Preliminary probe suggested that the duo had been involved in drug-peddling cases earlier as well.The two accused were taken into custody, and further investigation is under way.
