Udupi: A 9-year-old girl died and her father sustained serious injuries after a bus allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner collided with their scooter near Uliyargoli village on National Highway-66 on Tuesday. The deceased is Swathi Nithyananda Shetty.Police said the accident occurred when Nithyananda Kutty Shetty was riding a white scooter from Mangaluru towards Udupi, with his 9-year-old daughter Swathi as a pillion rider. At the same time, a private bus driven by Ranjith Kumar allegedly entered the highway from a service road without giving any signal and in a rash and negligent manner, colliding with the scooter. Due to the impact, the scooter got stuck under the bus, and both the rider and the child were thrown onto the road. The bus later hit the divider and came to a halt. With the help of locals, the injured were shifted for treatment. Both sustained severe head injuries, and the child lost consciousness. She was rushed in an autorickshaw to a hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. Nithyananda Shetty was shifted by ambulance to a hospital. A case has been registered at Kaup police station under Sections 281, 125(b), and 106(1) of the BNS.
