NEW DELHI: A nine-year-old boy died after falling into an underground water tank at an under-construction site while playing last week. The building owner has been arrested in connection with the case.The deceased, identified as Shreyansh, was a Class IV student and a resident of Tughlakabad village. He lived with his parents and elder sister. His father reportedly runs a tea stall at the local market. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when Shreyansh was returning home from school. According to police, he was playing with a group of friends when they entered a nearby under-construction building. During the course of play, Shreyansh accidentally slipped into an uncovered underground water tank and is suspected to have drowned.After one of his friends alerted the family, Shreyansh’s father rushed to the spot and managed to pull him out of the tank. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.A police officer said the construction site lacked basic safety measures. “There were no security guards deployed, no barricading around the hazardous area, and no warning signs. The premises were also poorly lit, making it extremely unsafe,” the police officer said.A case has been registered under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Govindpuri police station. The accused, identified as 60-year-old Jagdish, the owner of the building who resides at the site, has been arrested.
