Jodhpur: A nine-year-old girl from Pachpadra gave a new lease of life to three critically ill patients after her family decided to donate her organs following her brain death at AIIMS Jodhpur.Anjali, a Class 4 student, suffered severe head injuries in a road accident on Aug 19 while on her way to school. Her father, Ashok Das, a driver, said she was crossing the road when a dumper hit her.She was rushed to AIIMS Jodhpur, where doctors made efforts to save her. However, despite intensive treatment and life-saving interventions, she was declared brain dead on Aug 27.Following counselling by the medical team, the family agreed to donate her organs. Her two kidneys and liver were retrieved for transplantation.On Saturday morning, one kidney and the liver were transported to SMS Hospital in Jaipur through a green corridor, while the other kidney will be transplanted into a patient at AIIMS Jodhpur.AIIMS Jodhpur superintendent Abhishek Bhardwaj said the family was initially reluctant to give consent but agreed after multiple counselling sessions.“The family was informed of the significance of brain death and how organ donation could offer hope to patients waiting for life-saving transplants,” Bhardwaj said.AIIMS Jodhpur launched its deceased organ donation programme in March 2024. Since then, 37 organs have been donated through the institute. Anjali’s donation is the 12th cadaveric organ donation at AIIMS Jodhpur and the third involving a paediatric donor..
