These nine temples show how deeply Indian temple traditions are connected with different stages of childhood. Basara and Kollur are strongly associated with the beginning of learning; Guruvayur and Nathdwara with devotion to child Krishna; Palani, Vaitheeswaran Koil and Tirumala with important family rituals such as tonsuring; and several temples are visited by families seeking blessings for health, protection and well-being.

These beliefs belong to the religious and cultural traditions of the devotees. They should be understood as spiritual practices and expressions of faith, not as substitutes for medical care or education. For families, however, such visits can give children a meaningful connection with India’s stories, traditions and spiritual heritage.
