Kolkata: Ahead of the Monday (Aug 31) deadline, Bengal has achieved an estimated 87% compliance in Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC for domestic LPG connections. The LPG dealers said the final figure was likely to be available on Monday only after the oil marketing companies (OMCs) complete the tabulation process. The state has around 2.7 crore domestic LPG connections. Dealers said the compliance rate could rise further once pending cases, involving change or correction of consumer names, are processed and incorporated into the final count. The e-KYC exercise had triggered long queues at LPG dealerships across the state. Consumers have been facing difficulties in completing biometric authentication through the OMC apps and online platforms. The deadline was, thus, extended from Aug 16 to Aug 23.Dealers clarified that the end of the deadline would not mean the closure of the e-KYC facility.Consumers, who are yet to complete the authentication process, will continue to be able to do so.“OMCs said that e-KYC will never be stopped altogether. It would be an ongoing process,” said Bijon Bihari Biswas, spokesperson for LPG dealers.
