Bhubaneswar: One Odia worker continues to undergo treatment in Chennai even as the Odisha govt has facilitated the return of 84 workers rescued following the ammonia gas leak at a private industrial unit in Tamil Nadu’s Thiruvallur district.The latest to return is Padmini Juanga, who was discharged from hospital on Friday after receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the incident. She was flown to Bhubaneswar along with her mother and brother, where labour department officials received them at the airport and arranged transport to their native place.State labour commissioner Indramani Tripathy said with Padmini’s return, 84 affected Odia workers have safely reached their homes.

One worker, however, remains hospitalised in Chennai, and the state govt is closely monitoring the person’s condition in coordination with the Tamil Nadu authorities, he added.In the aftermath of the incident, the labour department has stepped up awareness efforts among migrant workers, particularly in tribal-dominated areas of Keonjhar district.It recently organised an awareness camp at Rangamatia village under Talapada gram panchayat in Telkoi block, where around 30 building and other construction workers, unorganised labourers and migrant workers from the Juanga community participated.
