T’puram: 81st anniversary of Great Soviet Victory over Fascism was commemorated on Sunday with a series of events drawing participation from Russian diplomats, nuclear specialists, students, historians and the public. Celebrations were organised in Thiruvananthapuram and in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. One of the key highlights was the public display of an 81-metre-long St George Ribbon. In Thiruvananthapuram, Pobeda Festival 2026 featured a wide range of commemorative and academic events. The inaugural session witnessed participation from historians, retired military officers, international relations experts and journalists. As part of the festival, 81 participants took part in a demonstration carrying the St George Ribbon. Two exhibitions — Road to Victory and Hero Cities of Russia — were organised as part of the festival. In addition, seminars focusing on the Soviet victory and its relevance to the contemporary global order were conducted. tnn
