Ranchi: Police arrested eight men and detained a juvenile boy on charges of raping a 20-year-old woman in Ranchi district on Friday night, allegedly after being instigated by her live-in partner, who is absconding, police said.DSP Ram Narayan Choudhary said the accused are aged between 19 and 24 years, while the juvenile is 15 years old.Choudhary said, “A case was registered under relevant sections of BNS on Saturday based on the statement of the rape survivor. On the direction of SSP Rakesh Ranjan, a team headed by me was formed to investigate the case and make arrests. The team conducted searches at several places to catch the accused within eight hours of registration of the FIR.”Police said the survivor’s medical examination has been conducted. Choudhary added police would seek a speedy trial to ensure justice to the woman.Police said the woman was in a live-in relationship for two years, but the man left for Kerala for work about one-and-a-half months ago. When she went with another person to a park on Friday, the man allegedly suspected she was in a relationship and asked his friends to find her and “do whatever they can with her”, police said.Police said the accused abducted her from near her home and took her to a riverside, where they raped her. She returned home and narrated her ordeal to her parents after being released on Saturday morning.
