Mangaluru: The city police have registered 7,490 cases for parking-related violations since June 2026 as part of a special drive to improve pedestrian safety, prevent road accidents and ensure the smooth movement of vehicles.According to a release issued by the city police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH, the cases involve no-parking violations, parking on footpaths, wrong parking, double parking, obstruction of traffic and other parking offences. A total fine of Rs 3.1 lakh was collected. Of the cases registered, 1,080 pertained to vehicles parked on footpaths.In a separate operation conducted from Aug 4 to 12, police acted against vehicles using defective or non-compliant registration plates and those being driven without number plates. The drive was aimed at ensuring compliance and preventing the use of such vehicles in criminal activities. During the operation, police booked 258 cases involving defective or non-compliant number plates and 74 cases against vehicles without number plates. While a total 332 cases were booked, fines amounting to Rs 3 lakh were imposed.The commissioner said vehicle owners are responsible for ensuring that registration plates are clearly visible, compliant with prescribed rules and properly fitted. Owners have also been urged to install the mandated high security registration plates (HSRP). The special enforcement drives will continue across the Mangaluru City police commissionerate, he said, appealing to the public to follow traffic and parking regulations and cooperate in ensuring safer and smoother movement on city roads.
