Ahmedabad: More than 74,000 motorists were booked for speeding and wrong-side driving across Gujarat in Aug, with traffic enforcement agencies collecting over Rs 5.3 crore in fines as part of a statewide road-safety drive.Of the 74,242 cases registered for the two violations, 38,083 involved overspeeding, while 36,159 were related to wrong-side driving. Authorities collected Rs 1.69 crore in fines from overspeeding cases and Rs 3.64 crore from motorists caught driving on the wrong side of the road.

Traffic violations in Gujarat in Aug

The enforcement drive also targeted illegal parking on highways and major roads, where improperly parked vehicles can obstruct traffic and increase the risk of accidents. During Aug, 10,408 cases of illegal parking were recorded on national highways, while another 20,813 cases were registered on state highways and other roads.In addition, enforcement agencies took action in 5,078 cases involving vehicles found obstructing traffic. Direct enforcement action was taken against 580 vehicles in such cases.The statewide enforcement campaign has also been extended to vehicles without number plates or those displaying tampered, unclear or otherwise non-compliant registration plates. The campaign, which began on Sep 1, will continue until Oct 14.
