Bhubaneswar:Seven yellow anacondas were born at Nandankanan Zoological Park’s exhibit enclosure on Sunday. Their parent snakes were brought from the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust, Chennai, in Oct 2019.“With the new births, the zoo now has two adult males, two adult females, and ten young yellow anacondas. One more female is expected to deliver soon,” said zoo deputy director Sanath Kumar. After being born, they were placed in quarantine for proper care. Once they grow strong enough to sustain themselves with prey feed, they will be brought back to the exhibit enclosure. Zoo sources said each anaconda in the wild can grow to about 14 feet long, but in captivity, they usually reach up to 10 feet.“After the newborns grow bigger, the anaconda enclosure will be remodelled to accommodate all of them,” zoo officials said. The distribution of yellow anacondas is mostly found in Bolivia, Paraguay, and Brazil. The zoo authorities here keep and rear the reptiles under conditions and temperatures suitable for their survival.
