Amreli: Road accidents claimed seven lives within 48 hours in Amreli district, casting a pall over Holi celebrations. Collisions at three locations left families devastated, with locals blaming incomplete highway works, confusing diversions and poor signage for turning the Bhavnagar–Somnath National Highway into what they describe as a “black spot”.Residents say roadwork delays and inadequate night-time indicators have made the route especially dangerous, with motorists often losing their way in the dark. As Holi and Dhuleti preparations begin across the state, several villages in the district are in mourning. Residents and community leaders expressed anger at delays in completing highway construction, poorly planned diversions and the lack of proper lighting and signage. They demanded that pending work be finished and adequate safety measures be implemented. Two youths killed near Jafrabad as motorcycle hits truck After midnight on Sunday, a truck and a motorcycle collided between Balaniwav and Kagwadar. Two men from Nageshree village — Manu Arjan Sankhat (36) and Ramesh Jadav Sankhat (41) — died on the spot. Locals said this stretch of the highway has seen construction work continuing for years, and unclear diversions at night remain a major cause of accidents. Three farm labourers dead, one injured in Liliya Late on Monday evening near Gundaran village, a motorcycle carrying four farm labourers rammed into the rear of an unidentified heavy vehicle. Three minors from MP died on the spot, while an 18-year-old youth was seriously injured. The deceased were identified as Jayesh Barsingh (17), Hemraj Swalesingh (14) and Railesh Swalesingh (12). The injured youth, Sunil Swalesingh (18), is undergoing treatment. According to Liliya police inspector M D Saluke, a case has been registered against the unknown driver and an investigation is underway. Two killed in hit-and-runs in Rajula taluka At Bherai Chowkdi, Trikam Lakha Parmar (70), a resident of Devli village in Talaja, died after an unidentified vehicle hit his moped. Early on Saturday morning, Kamlesh Bhana Gujriya of Victor village was run over by an unknown vehicle while walking near Hindorana and died on the spot. In a separate incident on Tuesday morning, a three-year-old child, Jignesh Mukesh Berani, who was walking with his mother near Giriya village, was hit by a motorcycle. The child suffered serious injuries and has been admitted to hospital. The three persons on the motorcycle survived the crash.
