Kanpur: A 7-ft-deep pit was formed after the ground caved in at Sikhtiya village under Maharajpur police station limits early Saturday.Villagers said the pit appeared beside a neem tree. They suspected that an old well existed beneath the spot, causing the soil to subside.Police reached the site after receiving information and launched an investigation into the incident.Locals said they were guarding the pit and preventing children from approaching it to avoid any mishap.
