Coimbatore: The Ramanathapuram police on Monday booked 62 AIADMK and BJP supporters for assaulting DMK cadres over allegations of cash distribution to voters.The incident took place on Sunday night, when DMK supporters were campaigning near Ramanathapuram. The injured DMK cadres on Monday lodged a complaint with the Ramanathapuram police, who during their inquiry found that AIADMK and BJP cadres, including 12 functionaries, were involved in the assault and damaging the car in which DMK cadres were travelling. Police subsequently registered a first information report against 62 people. AIADMK cadres alleged that DMK workers were distributing cash to voters in support of V Senthilbalaji, who is contesting in Coimbatore South constituency. They claimed that a large amount of cash was being carried in the car. Police have, meanwhile, found a bag containing several voter ID cards and Rs39,000 in the car. Further investigation is on.
