Agartala: Prompted by treasury bench MLAs, chief minister Dr Manik Saha told the Tripura Assembly that six FIRs have been registered over remarks made by former chief minister and CPM leader Manik Sarkar.Dr Saha said Sarkar’s comment suggested that a movement could turn into a “fierce protest” against the BJP-led govt with the aim of unseating it in the 2028 assembly election.According to Dr Saha, the first FIR was registered at West Agartala police station after a complaint by Prabir Roy, who cited Sarkar’s statements made on Aug 10 at a political event.The complaint alleged Sarkar’s remarks implied the agitation could escalate into a “fierce protest” if demands were not met, and warned that such statements from a senior leader could fuel opposition to govt and disrupt peace and public order.Dr Saha said govt was concerned the remarks could encourage anti-social elements to disturb law and order and endanger public safety.He said five more Zero FIRs were filed at police stations in Kalyanpur, Khowai, Bishalgarh, Kadamtala and Teliamura, and investigations are underway.Dr Saha told the House legal action has been initiated and said govt would act to maintain peace and public order without regard to political affiliation. He also advised leaders across parties to use caution in public language, warning that incitement could trigger serious law and order problems.
