T’puram: A court in Kollam on Tuesday sentenced a 58-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor boy.A special fast-track court in Karunagappally also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict, identified as Thamalu Babu alias Harikumar, of Neendakara.The sentence was pronounced by Judge Sri Rajeevan Vachalil in a case registered by Chavara police earlier in 2024. The judgment came after a swift probe process led by inspector K R Biju. The team’s efficiency resulted in the charge sheet being submitted to the court within just 10 days of the incident.Special public prosecutor N C Premachandran represented the prosecution.In Feb this year, Kadakkal police had arrested a 50-year-old bus cleaner for alleged sexual assault of a nine-year-old boy during a journey. The accused Raji was booked under multiple sections of Pocso Act.
