Bhubaneswar: In a significant boost to its global research credentials, KIIT Deemed to be University has announced that 54 of its faculty members have been ranked among the world’s top 5% scientists in SciRank Global Index 2025.The recognition comes from SciRank Global Registry, an independent international platform that evaluates researchers through a comprehensive bibliometric assessment of scientific output and impact. The 2025 edition assessed more than 10 million active researcher profiles and nearly 50 million scholarly publications from across the world.According to the index, scientists placed in the top 5% category have demonstrated greater research productivity and impact than 95% of their global peers.KIIT and KISS founder Achyuta Samanta said the inclusion of 54 faculty members in the prestigious registry will enhance KIIT’s international visibility and open up new opportunities for research collaborations, innovation projects and student mentorship programmes.DAV Pokhariput celebrates International Yoga DayDAV Public School, Pokhariput, celebrated the 12th International Yoga Day on Sunday, highlighting the importance of the practice in achieving physical well-being and mental balance.Addressing a gathering, Bipin Kumar Sahu, regional officer of DAV Odisha Zone-F and chairman of the school, emphasised the role of yoga in leading a successful and healthy life. Drawing lessons from the ‘Bhagavad Gita’ and inspiring anecdotes, he explained the benefits of yoga and encouraged students to adopt it as a way of life. He said yoga is essential for maintaining good health, reducing stress and bringing positive lifestyle changes.Instructor Smita Das delivered a motivational talk on the significance of yoga and explained simple techniques and guidelines for practising it along with pranayama. The school’s yoga teacher, Rajalakshmi Tripathy, led students and staff members in various yogasanas and breathing exercises.As part of the celebrations, competitions such as yogasana demonstrations and poster-making were also organised.FM University marks International Horseshoe Crab DayFakir Mohan (FM) University on Saturday observed International Horseshoe Crab Day 2026, bringing together scientists, conservationists, govt officials, students and NGOs to highlight the need for stronger protection of one of the world’s oldest surviving marine species.The programme was jointly organised by Centre for Research and Conservation of Indian Horseshoe Crabs, FM University; along with forest, and science and technology departments, in collaboration with partners of Odisha Marine Biotechnology Research and Innovation Corridor project.Experts stressed the importance of habitat protection, scientific monitoring and community participation to safeguard horseshoe crab populations.Scientists from IISER, Kolkata; Zoological Survey of India and National Institute of Oceanography shared research findings and conservation strategies. The event also featured student competitions, a conservation poster release and discussions on coastal biodiversity protection.
