Mysuru: A 50% discount scheme on pending traffic fines has helped city police recover Rs 4.1 crore in just 18 days from 1,65,112 traffic rule violators. With only a day left before the concession period ends, authorities have urged vehicle owners to clear their dues within the announced window. The govt allowed motorists to settle all outstanding traffic challans by paying half the amount. The facility applies to fines booked up to May 2026 and was available from June 21 to July 10. The move was aimed at reducing long-pending cases and improving compliance. In Mysuru district, 18,679 violators have used the scheme so far, depositing Rs 47,29,750. Police officers said the response indicates that many were willing to pay once a reduced settlement option was provided.Several motorists, however, said they were unaware of unpaid fines and were shocked to find multiple cases pending against their vehicles. Some alleged they never received information or reminders about the challans.A senior police officer said notices were issued to addresses listed in the RTO database and SMS alerts were sent to registered mobile numbers. They said non-delivery could be due to people shifting residences, changing phone numbers, or failing to update contact details in official records.
