Navi Mumbai: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation on Wednesday started operations at the city’s only veterinary hospital in Juinagar. The facility, built at Rs 6 crore, was ready in 2021. Animal welfare groups had criticised the civic body for the long delay in opening it. The outpatient department began functioning with three veterinarians and four staff members. A formal inauguration is expected by the month-end, to be attended by the mayor and the civic commissioner. So far, injured birds and animals were taken to Thane for treatment. —B B Nayak
