Kanpur: A five-year-old boy died after being run over by a pickup vehicle in Kanpur’s Araul police station area on Wednesday night. His family later placed his body on the road on Thursday morning, blocking traffic and demanding compensation.The incident took place in Champatpur village, where Aakash, son of Kamlesh Sharma, was playing outside his house.Police said the driver was reversing the pickup, which had arrived at a dairy to collect milk, when Aakash came under the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.After the accident, the driver fled the spot. Villagers took Aakash to the Community Health Centre in Bilhaur, where doctors declared him dead.On Thursday morning, after the postmortem, family members brought Aakash’s body back to the village and placed it on the road, demanding compensation. Police reached the spot after receiving information and persuaded the family members.Later, the pickup operator reached the spot, following which talks over compensation took place between the two sides in the presence of community members. Police said further action was being taken in the matter.
