GURGAON: A five-member special investigation team (SIT) headed by ACP (crime and women) has been constituted to probe the road-rage case involving a Delhi-based biker who was allegedly chased and rammed by a car near Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro station on Sunday, in what police have termed a “murder bid.“The SIT will include the station house officer of Sector 56 police station, Sohna crime branch in charge, and two other police officers.A local court on Wednesday sent the two accused, Kalyan Singh Bainsla and his cousin Lavnish, to police custody till Friday. Police will take the two accused to the crime spot during their two-day custody to recreate the sequence.In her statement to police on Tuesday, Shivani Chauhan, the biker, said the driver of a white Ciaz (HR-30-Y-4949) made indecent gestures at her, chased her, and rammed her bike with intent to kill before fleeing. Video from her bike camera showed her Aprilia RS 457 being knocked down after the car repeatedly tried to get alongside her motorcycle, with her bike sliding across the road as traffic continued to pass.Based on her statement and the CCTV footage submitted, police added sections 78, 79 and 109(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita – including the attempt-to-murder charge – to a case that was initially registered under sections 281 and 125 BNS against the then-unidentified driver.Police took suo motu cognisance of the incident after a video posted by the Instagram account ‘Rebelwheels_Sia’ went viral on Sept 14, showing the Ciaz and the motorcycle. Shivani handed police a pen drive along with her CCTV footage. Investigators separately obtained GMDA and DLF camera footage from 6am to 8am on Sept 13, covering Golf Course Road and the Metro station area.Police teams, coordinated by senior officers with Sohna crime team and Sector 56 police involved, searched for Kalyan at his Palwal residence and other locations before arresting both men in Rajasthan on Sept 15. The white Ciaz allegedly used in the incident was seized after their arrest.Seeking custodial remand, police told the court they needed to take the accused to the spot to recreate the sequence of events, prepare a crime script, and establish the whereabouts of others allegedly involved.The victim has claimed four people were in the car. Police said Kalyan and Lavnish know their whereabouts, and that they are to be traced in Faridabad and Palwal.The accused’s lawyer, Lalit Bindal, contested the need for custody. “Surprisingly, the accused were in the custody of the cops on Tuesday and thus they had sufficient time to investigate or interrogate them. It is just an accident case but police in order to arrest the accused have levelled sections pertaining to attempt to murder. It is a matter of rash and negligent driving and thus cops didn’t need his remand,” Bindal said.
