Dilip KumarBettiah: Police in West Champaran district on Sunday seized around 480 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) concealed under a heap of weeds in an abandoned tractor-trolley in Maldi village under Shikarpur police station limits.According to police, the tractor-trolley was parked in an agricultural field under suspicious circumstances. Local youths, who noticed the unattended vehicle, inspected it and found cartons of liquor hidden beneath the weeds. The information spread quickly, drawing a large number of villagers to the spot before police were informed.Acting on the tip-off, Shikarpur SHO Manoj Kumar Singh reached the spot with a team and conducted a search.“During the search, 55 cartons containing different brands of English liquor, amounting to around 480 litres, were recovered from the tractor-trolley. The smugglers, however, fled after abandoning the vehicle before police arrived,” Singh said.The seized liquor and the tractor-trolley have been taken into custody. An FIR has been lodged against unidentified smugglers under the Excise Act, and further investigation is underway.The SHO said preliminary investigation suggests links of the smuggling network to Narkatiaganj town and nearby areas. Police are trying to trace the entire syndicate and expressed confidence that the key accused will be arrested soon.
