Madikeri: The re-verification of Gruha Jyoti Yojana beneficiaries has been under way in Kodagu district since July 1 and 47% of the work has been completed, Ramachandra, executive engineer of Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC), said.Meter readers and linemen are visiting homes to verify the beneficiaries and collect information from residents.Of the total 1,47,812 beneficiaries in the district, re-verification of 69,275 consumer records has been completed so far. The records of 17,250 people in Madikeri taluk, 12,685 in Virajpet taluk, 17,031 in Somwarpet taluk, 12,268 in Kushalnagar taluk and 10,041 in Ponnampet taluk have been re-verified.Somwarpet taluk has recorded the highest completion rate at 79.1%, while Kushalnagar taluk has recorded the lowest at 34.8%, the EE said.Ramachandra said the exercise will continue till the end of Aug.Meanwhile, CESC is facing a staff shortage in Kodagu district. The official said there is a severe personnel shortage for electrical repair work and field operations in the district, as staff are hesitant to come to Kodagu.Only 36.8% of the required workforce is currently available in the district — only 210 against the required 570, he added.
