Ahmedabad: A relationship between a 45-year-old woman and a 24-year-old youth led to emotional turmoil and family tensions that eventually reached the Abhayam 181 women helpline.According to counsellors associated with the helpline, the woman came in contact with the youth while caring for her bedridden husband.” The young man would frequently assist her with household chores and errands, gradually leading to a close relationship between the two,” a counsellor said.The relationship reportedly came to light nearly a year later, causing friction between the families and within the residential society where the woman lived with her husband. Following the disputes, the woman and her husband reportedly shifted to another locality. However, counsellors said the relationship between the woman and the youth continued even after the move.The matter escalated further when the youth’s family began arranging his engagement. According to counsellors, the woman allegedly objected to the marriage proposal and even approached the prospective fiancee, leading to fresh tensions.“The woman claimed the youth had hidden the marriage discussions from her,” the counsellor said.Following the dispute, the Abhayam 181 helpline team intervened and counselled both families. “Both sides were counselled regarding the complications arising from the relationship. The woman was advised not to approach the youth or his family further, as it could worsen matters,” the counsellor added.
