Silchar: Police seized 40,000 suspected Yaba tablets and 155 kg of suspected Burmese areca nuts in Cachar’s Saptagram area on Saturday evening.Two brothers were arrested in connection with the seizures.Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a scooter in the Dholai police station area and searched its storage compartment. They recovered four packets containing the suspected tablets, weighing 4.363 kg.The rider and pillion passenger were identified as Saptagram residents Ziabur Rahman Barbhuiya and Taiyabur Rahman Barbhuiya. Police said they are brothers.Police later searched a godown belonging to Taiyabur and recovered four sacks containing 155 kg of suspected Burmese areca nuts.The tablets and areca nuts were seized following legal procedures. Police have launched an investigation to trace the consignments’ source and intended destination and determine whether others were involved.
