Mumbai: Four years after 31 tolas of gold was stolen from her apartment, a Charkop-based homemaker lodged a police complaint about the theft. She told the police that at the time she suspected insider involvement and decided to stay mum. But when another theft was reported at her apartment earlier this year, in which Rs 30 lakh worth of jewellery was stolen and police arrested her neighbour, she now suspects the latter’s involvement in the old case as well. Charkop police registered a case of theft against an unidentified person and are probing further.The 41-year-old complainant lives with her son in Charkop, while her husband works overseas as a drilling manager.In April this year, the complainant and her son decided to visit their hometown in Sindhudurg. The complainant put up electronic surveillance cameras inside her apartment and could view the footage through an app on her phone.On April 12, the complainant was checking the CCTV footage on her phone while she was in Sindhudurg. She was shocked to find video grabs of an unknown individual, dressed in black, entering her apartment at 5 am. He went to the upper floor of her home and then walked out carrying a white bag with him. The complainant immediately alerted her parents and brother and decided to leave for Mumbai.On her return, she found that the door lock was broken and the apartment had been ransacked. Gold jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh was stolen. After she lodged a police complaint, an investigation was carried out and a neighbour was arrested. Police recovered the entire stolen jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh. Police said the neighbour and her ‘rakhi brother’ carried out the heist as the latter was out of work.On Monday, the complainant approached the Charkop police station again and narrated that gold worth Rs 15.3 lakh was stolen from her house in Nov 2022. She said she placed her jewellery carefully in her cupboard after wearing it for a religious event on Nov 25, 2022. But when her husband returned from abroad and wanted to wear a gold chain for a wedding three days later, the jewellery was missing. Police said they will probe the case from all angles.
