Jhansi: Four men wanted in connection with an attempt-to-murder and robbery case were arrested following an exchange of fire with police near Nayakheda Road, ahead of Raksa toll plaza, on Thursday morning. Two of the accused sustained bullet injuries to their legs during retaliatory firing and were taken to hospital.The encounter took place after a joint team of Raksa police and the SWAT team surrounded the accused following a tip-off. According to SP City Preeti Singh, the suspects opened fire at the police team with the intention of killing them, prompting the personnel to retaliate. Two accused, identified as Mangal Singh Jat, 50, and Lokendra Sahu alias Little, 32, both from neighbouring Datia district of MP, sustained bullet injuries to their legs. Their two associates, Bhupendra Singh, 38, of Patiala, Punjab, and Brijkishore Dhakad, 50, also from Datia, were arrested.The four were allegedly involved in an Aug 17 incident in which Rinku Prajapati, who runs an online money-transfer and FASTag shop near Anand petrol pump in Garhwaha, was seriously injured. According to the complaint, a group of men arrived at the shop in a four-wheeler and allegedly got Rs 60,000 transferred through UPI in lieu of giving cash. After getting the money transferred, the accused allegedly tried to drive away without paying the cash. When Prajapati asked for the money, the accused allegedly pulled him into their vehicle. When he resisted, they dragged him for around 300 metres before throwing him from the moving vehicle. Prajapati suffered severe injuries and bruises all over his body and was admitted to hospital in serious condition.Police said a case was registered at Raksa police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the investigation led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.Police recovered two country-made .315-bore pistols, three spent cartridges, two live cartridges, Rs 11,000 in cash and a four-wheeler from their possession. A fresh case has been registered at Raksa police station in connection with the encounter and recovery, and further legal proceedings are underway.
