Udupi: Four engineering students were arrested for allegedly assaulting three people near a bar and restaurant at Eshwaranagar in Herga village, at around 11.50pm on Aug 2.According to police, Yashraj was walking along the road with his younger brother Pavan Kumar and friend Shreyas, when the accused arrived in two cars. They allegedly intercepted Pavan Kumar, verbally abused him and assaulted him. One of the accused allegedly struck him in the face with a metal punch, causing a serious injury to his nose. The accused also allegedly kicked Yashraj and Shreyas, tore their clothes and threatened to kill them before leaving the spot.The arrested have been identified as Akshay A, 21, from Seegehatti, Puneeth S, 21, from Halkola, Shamantha K R, 21, from Purle, and Yashwanth B J, 21, from Vinobanagar, Shivamogga district. Manipal police registered a case sections 126 (2), 352, 351, 115, 118 (1), 118 (2), read with section 3(5), of the BNS.Preliminary investigation suggests that the assault was triggered by road rage after one of the victims allegedly made a remark, leading to an escalation. The accused were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. Police said investigation revealed that all four are engineering students.
