Police said Divyansh and Yashika sustained critical injuries and remain in a serious condition. Divyansh has received injuries in head, neck and ribs.Police said Divyansh, a tattoo artist, was driving the car, while his cousin Yashika was seated behind him. The incident took place a few metres from the police commissioner’s office at 4.40 am.Lakshita told the media that the Thar was travelling at a very high speed when it struck their Baleno on its right side. The force of the collision caused the SUV to overturn while throwing their car onto the divider, deploying the airbags, she added. The traffic personnel informed the police control room and handed over one of the Thar occupants to police. Meenakshi claimed that three young men were travelling in the SUV. Following the crash, two of them fled the scene, while one was caught by local residents before the police arrived, she claimed.A case has been registered under sections 281 (rash driving), 125(A) (rash or negligent acts endangering human life) and 324(4) (mischief) of BNS at Shivaji Nagar police station. Witnesses also recorded videos and photographs of the occupants of the SUV.CCTV footage from the area is being examined by the police and allegations that the driver was intoxicated are also being verified. The station house officer of Shivaji Nagar police station, investigating officer head constable Govind and other police officials did not disclose the identity of the Thar driver.“I want justice for my children. Divyansh is my only son. If the police do not put the Thar driver behind bars and instead try to save him, I will also fight a legal battle against the police,” Meenakshi said while interacting with the media.Lakshita alleged, “After getting out of the Thar, one of them started abusing us in public. He abused me and my mother. He claimed to be the son of a police officer and said that nothing would happen to him. Both my brother and sister have been lying unconscious in the hospital since the accident and are battling for their lives.”The family had just begun their journey for a religious pilgrimage and were travelling on Shivaji Nagar Road. As the family reached the Sohna Chowk intersection and were turning right towards Rajiv Chowk, the Thar bearing registration number HR26FE4101, coming from the Rajiv Chowk side, rammed into their Baleno, triggering the collision. The impact was so severe that the family’s car was extensively damaged after crashing into a Jersey barrier installed on the divider at the intersection under the traffic signal, while the Thar overturned outside the traffic police beat box on the left side of the road towards Old Railway Road. The victims were trapped inside the mangled Baleno and were rescued by three traffic personnel stationed at the beat box — constable Nitish and home guards Manish and Vikas — with the help of bystanders. They pulled the family out of the vehicle and rushed them to a nearby hospital in an ambulance, where they are undergoing treatment. Home guard Vikas also suffered an injury to his right arm while rescuing the victims.Rajinder, an eyewitness, said, “As the Thar struck the victims’ car, the driver and his cousin, who was seated behind him on the right side, got trapped inside the vehicle, while the two women seated on the left side managed to get out on their own. The driver was completely unconscious, and the woman seated behind him had pieces of glass lodged on her face and near her mouth, which were removed by the police personnel themselves.”
