Ahmedabad: Four men drowned in the Narmada canal in Gandhinagar district in two separate incidents. The two incidents occurred within 24 hours on Sunday. While the bodies of two victims have been recovered, the other two were yet to be found, police said on Monday.The first incident was reported near Valad between Limbdiya and Karai in which cousins Sunil Ambaliya and Roshan Ambaliya, both Dholera natives living in Ahmedabad, went to the canal on a two-wheeler. Police said Sunil slipped into the canal while washing his hands and feet. Seeing him struggle, Roshan jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue him. Both were swept away by the strong current. Fire and emergency teams launched a search in the area and recovered Sunil’s body. Efforts were underway to locate Roshan. The second incident occurred near Raipur on the Dehgam-Naroda Road. Brothers Nikhil and Neeraj Vaghela, residents of Naroda, had come to the spot after a dispute at home. Nikhil allegedly jumped into the canal, and Neeraj followed him in an attempt to rescue him. Both were swept away. Nikhil’s body was found in the canal near Medra village. Search for Neeraj is going on, cops said.Both the tragedies have been registered at Dabhoda police station as accidental deaths.
