Gurgaon: A 21-year-old man was arrested five days after a canteen helper was allegedly abducted near Rajiv Chowk, assaulted inside a Swift car and forced to reveal his ATM PIN and withdraw Rs 10,000 from his bank account. Police have also seized the car allegedly used in the crime.Ankit Kumar (23), a resident of Badli in Jhajjar, works as a helper in the canteen at Air Force Station, Sohna. The incident took place on Aug 31 around 4pm after he finished his shift and was walking towards Rajiv Chowk.Ankit mentioned in his complaint that four men had allegedly attacked him from behind near the BSNL building, hit him on the head and forcibly dragged him into their white Swift car.They then demanded Rs 10,000 from him. When Ankit told them that he was only a cleaner and did not have the money, they started assaulting him, police said.Fearing further assault, Ankit called his co-worker Parvinder and asked him to transfer Rs 10,000. After the money had been transferred to his account, the accused drove him to an ATM and forced him to withdraw the cash.The men then drove him to a secluded spot in Dhankot and dumped him there.A police officer said the men assaulted Ankit again before fleeing and threatened him with consequences if he informed police.A case was registered against unidentified persons under BNS sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 140(3) (abduction), 3(5) (act done by several persons) and 308(5) (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) at Gurgaon Sadar police station.During the investigation, police traced one of the men and arrested him near Hero Honda Chowk on Sept 4. He was identified as Nikhil (21), a resident of Jorababas village in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district.“The Swift car used in the crime had been taken on rent. During questioning, Nikhil said they had committed the crime for easy money. The car has been seized from his possession,” a police spokesperson, Sandeep Turan, said.Police are questioning him to identify and trace his associates. Further investigation is under way.
