Nagpur: A high-intensity anti-drug operation in Yashodhara Nagar on Tuesday resulted in 36 peddlers being rounded up and substantial quantities of ganja seized from multiple locations within a span of two hours. The raid was led by CP Ravinder Singal at ground zero, underlining the police’s aggressive zero-tolerance stance against the growing drug menace.Multiple teams simultaneously raided over a dozen identified hotspots, including residential pockets, suspected hideouts, and open areas used for drug activities. Police conducted thorough verification of 36 individuals with previous records related to narcotics. The house-to-house searches led to the recovery of ganja from several offenders, with many already serving time in other cases now facing fresh preventive action. Senior officers, including deputy commissioner of police (Detection) Rahul Maknikar and assistant commissioner of police (Crime) Abhijit Patil, joined the CP on the ground.CP Singal, who monitored the operation on the field, stressed the strategic importance of such drives. “Operation Thunder is delivering consistent results. These raids not only disrupt supply chains but also create strong deterrence. We are committed to making Nagpur completely drug-free through sustained pressure,” he said. The operation assumes greater significance as Yashodhara Nagar has emerged as a key zone for narcotics peddling. By targeting repeat offenders, police are trying to dismantle several active links in the local drug ecosystem. Apart from narcotics, teams also flagged suspected illegal constructions during the combing exercise, now under active verification for possible connections to drug-funded activities. This large-scale raid reflects the broader vision of Nagpur Police to combine intelligence-based policing with visible enforcement. Similar intensive operations are slated for other vulnerable areas in the coming weeks.
