T’puram: Kallambalam Police on Wednesday arrested five youths for stabbing to death a 34-year-old man at Muthana near Kallambalam. The police said the accused and the victim were neighbours and had previous enmity.Kallambalam native Priju P suffered two stab wounds to his chest and another to his back in the attack. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. His friend Ajay, 37, who was with him, also sustained injuries.The police first arrested Gauri Krishna, 18. Based on the information obtained from him, police traced the other accused. The remaining accused were reportedly planning to leave the district.The arrested are Manu, 19, Kannan, 18, Ranjith, 20, and Shaiju, 22.District police chief Prashanthan Kani B K said more details about the motive and circumstances leading to the incident will emerge as the investigation progresses.Police teams led by circle inspectors from Varkala, Kallambalam, Ayiroor and Pallickal stations reached the crime scene and began the investigation. Varkala DSP Ramesh Kumar P V supervised the probe.Evidence collection at the scene has been completed, police said. The accused were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.The arrests were made by a team led by Varkala DSP Ramesh Kumar P V, Kallambalam CI Deepu and members of the Rural Dansaf team.
