Rajkot: A 32-year-old man, Bhavesh Vanvi, was murdered by a group of men near Dream City in the Raiyadhar area on Sunday night.Police registered a case of murder against Hamir Jogarana and four or five unidentified persons. The killing is suspected to be linked to a complaint Bhavesh had earlier filed with the municipal corporation. According to the FIR lodged by the victim’s friend, Rahul Parmar, he, Bhavesh and another friend, Prince Vanvi, were sitting near Sopan Heights before leaving for dinner. While passing Dream City, they were followed by assailants in a car and on a motorcycle. The attackers attacked Bhavesh with sticks, sickles and axes. Prince was also beaten and suffered head injuries. The assailants allegedly forced Bhavesh into the car, assaulted him again and then dumped him on the road near Sheetal Park Chokdi. He was rushed to a govt hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Prince is undergoing treatment. Rahul’s complaint states that the attack stemmed from a grievance over a roadside juice cart for which Bhavesh had lodged a complaint with the municipal corporation against Jogarana. University police station inspector Hareshkumar Patel said the case is being treated as murder and Section 103(1) of the BNS will be added. The case was initially registered under Sections 109, 118(1), 191(2), 190 and 140(3) of the BNS and the Atrocity Act. The investigation revealed that Bhavesh had 10 prior offences, including rioting and assault, and had previously been booked under the PASA Act.
