AHMEDABAD: A Porsche car may be built for speed, but Ahmedabad’s narrow, crowded roads are hardly a racetrack. Yet, police are probing a case involving a 24-year-old commercial pilot who allegedly drove a Porsche at high-speed on city roads near Law Garden — with a video purportedly showing the car touching a dizzying 300 kmph. Police are verifying authenticity of the video on social media.Navrangpura police registered an offence against the Gandhinagar resident on Tuesday after a video of a silver Porsche allegedly being driven at high speed came to their notice. The car was reportedly seen speeding along the stretch from HCG Hospital towards M B Patel Rashtrabhasha Arts and Commerce College in Mithakhali and then towards Law Garden.According to police, the incident took place around 1.30pm on Aug 22, when the Porsche, bearing a Gandhinagar registration number, was allegedly driven in a manner that endangered other road users.The video had reportedly been uploaded on Instagram and was later noticed by cops while they were on duty at the Law Garden police outpost. The footage prompted them to trace the vehicle and verify who was behind the wheel.Navrangpura police booked the accused under provisions relating to rash driving on a public way that endangers human life under BNS and the Motor Vehicles Act. The Porsche was seized on Wednesday.Investigating officer PSI A C Zala said a notice was served on the accused and they were waiting for him to appear for questioning. “Preliminary inquiry indicates that he is a commercial pilot. Further details will be established after he is questioned,” he said.Police, meanwhile, were examining another purported video circulating on social media in which the same Porsche is allegedly shown being driven at around 300 kmph. Officers are checking the authenticity of the footage and whether it was connected to the same vehicle and driver.The investigation will now determine who was driving the car during the alleged high-speed run — and whether the 300-kmph clip was really part of the same joyride.
