Kolkata: Around 30 lakh fake names have been found during verification of data of the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme as the West Bengal government starts transitioning to the Annapurnar Yojana scheme, which will give Rs 3,000 to women beneficiaries, as promised in the BJP’s manifesto, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said. Meanwhile, the West Bengal government, during the filling up of forms, will collect family data of the beneficiaries, the CM announced.

“We want details of the beneficiaries and family data to be collected in central and state schemes,” he said. Presently, more than 2.20 crore women were getting the benefits of the cash transfer scheme. With the exclusion of the fake names, the list of beneficiaries will be streamlined.

The Direct Bank Transfer will be started on June 1 and the enrolment process will continue for 90 days, the CM said. “The enrolment will start from Friday and the process will continue for 90 days. There will be both online and offline modes. Municipal Corporations, borough-based offices and Panchayats will facilitate people with the form fill-up coupled with door-to-door visits.”

“Non-Indians will be excluded from the scheme, except those who have applied for CAA and Tribunal,” he said.

Citing how the fake names were present in the list, the CM cited the example of one Rakibul Sheikh from Baharampur’s Rasharghat Gram Panchayat, who was getting benefits from Lakshmir Bhandar despite being a man.

“In our manifesto we have announced the Annapurna Yojana. After the formation of the government, we decided to start the scheme, and it was approved by the first cabinet. It was our primary idea that the names of beneficiaries in ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’ will be verified and those names deleted from the electoral list will not be included in the beneficiary list. Tribunal no application and around 30 lakh fake names will be deleted,” Adhikari said, as he launched the issuance of the online and offline form-filling process.
“We are launching a form for the scheme. The task is huge and the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and Finance Secretary, WEBEL and the IT and PAR departments will be coordinating the process,” the CM said, adding the BDO office and MLAs will participate in the form fill-up after the launch.Camps for women will be organised from June 15 to 17 where all queries will be answered. “We will collect family data. We want the country’s people to get the benefits of the scheme and actual beneficiaries shouldn’t be deprived,” he said.
