Mohali: Security was heightened across Mohali on Monday after three prominent schools and the office of the mayor received bomb threat e-mails ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Chandigarh and Punjab on July 17.Following extensive searches by police, bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog teams, no suspicious object was found at any of the locations.Mohali deputy commissioner Komal Mittal said the threat e-mails were received around 8:30am by Yadavindra Public School (YPS), DAV Public School and Delhi Public School (DPS), Mohali, as well as the office of the mayor. The e-mails claimed that the three schools would be targeted at 1:11pm, while the Mayor’s office would be attacked at 3:11 pm.The DC said the district administration immediately activated emergency response protocols. Police teams, bomb disposal squads and other security agencies were deployed, and comprehensive searches of the schools and the mayor’s office were conducted. All locations were declared safe after the searches.SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said bomb detection and disposal squads along with sniffer dog teams carried out thorough inspections of the threatened premises.“Every location mentioned in the e-mails was searched meticulously. Nothing suspicious was found during the operation,” the SSP said, adding that the police are investigating the source of the emails.YPS director-principal T P S Waraich said the school immediately implemented security measures after receiving the threat.“Entry and exit points of the school were sealed, and no unauthorised person was allowed inside the campus. Police teams carried out detailed checks. After the security clearance, the school continued its routine academic activities,” he said.According to the e-mails, the sender also threatened to carry out an IED blast at Chandigarh Railway Station on July 17, the day of the Prime Minister’s visit, and allegedly issued a death threat to Union minister of state for railways Ravneet Singh Bittu. The e-mail urged people not to attend the Prime Minister’s public programmes and contained references to the upcoming visit and other political issues.Police said the e-mails are being examined. Security has been strengthened at sensitive locations in Mohali and adjoining areas as a precautionary measure ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.Officials urged people not to panic and to immediately report any suspicious object or activity to the police.
