Amravati: A routine pothole repair work on the Amravati-Nagpur national highway near Sawardi village on Wednesday turned tragic after a speeding truck lost control and tore through a stationary vehicle and a group of workers, killing on the spot and leaving three others critically injured.The accident occurred around 1:30 pm near Reliance petrol pump, where a team from IRB Infrastructure was carrying out maintenance work. As per police, an IRB truck loaded with repair material was parked on the roadside. At the same time, a speeding truck allegedly veered off course and slammed into the parked vehicle before mowing down workers on duty.The victims were identified as Shivchand Shriram Pal (38), driver of the speeding truck and a resident of Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, Mukund Shriram Ganorkar (55), and Devidas Patil (53), both workers from Chittur village in Ashti tehsil, Wardha district.Pal was trapped inside the crushed cabin of the speeding truck. Local residents joined Nandgaon Peth police in efforts to cut through the mangled metal and pull his body out. The three bodies were later sent for autopsy.Three other workers, Bhushan Pandurang Ganorkar, Dilip Bharape of Mozari, and Ashok Uke, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to District General Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.Traffic on the busy highway for some time after the accident. Police cleared the road after removing the wrecked vehicles.Police Inspector Puneet Kulat from Nandgaon Peth police station said a case has been registered and an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the crash.
