LUCKNOW: Three young men were killed and another sustained serious injuries after a speeding onion-laden truck lost control and overturned onto two motorcycles on the Tanda-Banda Highway under Munshiganj police station limits in Amethi district late on early Friday. The truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle after the accident.The tragic incident occurred around 12:30 am near Lokipur village in the Munshiganj area. According to police, the truck, loaded with onions, was travelling from Gauriganj towards Sultanpur when the driver allegedly lost control while attempting to avoid a motorcycle moving ahead of the vehicle. The speeding truck veered off balance and overturned onto two motorcycles passing alongside it.The impact triggered panic among bystanders, who rushed to the scene and alerted the police. Local residents and police personnel launched a rescue operation and pulled the victims from beneath the overturned truck before shifting them to hospital.Two victims, identified as Prince Verma (16), son of Shyamlal Verma, and Sunny Kumar (25), son of Ramdev Verma, both residents of Ghazipur village under Antu police station in Pratapgarh district, died on the spot.Another victim, identified as Raju, a resident of Sultanpur, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to the district hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.The fourth victim, Ajit, a resident of Shravasti district, sustained serious injuries and remains admitted to the district hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.Preliminary investigations revealed that all four youths were relatives and were returning home after attending a community feast (Bhandara) when the accident took place. The sudden tragedy plunged their families into grief and mourning.Upon receiving information, a team from Munshiganj police station reached the spot and supervised rescue and recovery operations. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination after completing legal formalities.Munshiganj Station House Officer Shivakant Tripathi said that the truck has been seized and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the absconding driver. The families of the deceased have been informed, and further investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident is in progress.Police are examining all aspects of the case, including the speed of the vehicle and possible negligence on the part of the driver.
