Guwahati: Tension flared briefly in Sonapur on the outskirts of Guwahati on Sunday evening after three youths, reportedly in an inebriated state, created a ruckus in front of Zubeen Kshetra and allegedly injured police personnel.Police identified the accused as Alam Ali (26) of South Salmara-Mankachar district, and Mukut Das (37) and Ranjan Das (32), both from Kamrup district.
“The incident took place between 5 pm to 5.30 pm, when the youths who were intoxicated began shouting loudly, using abusive language and obstructing pedestrians and passing vehicles. The area, where people come here with devotion, suddenly burst out with commotion as the youths started arguing with people without any apparent provocation,” a police officer said.The officer said the trio allegedly grabbed the collars of female officers during the confrontation and continued to resist after being restrained, including biting on-duty personnel at Zubeen Kshetra.Two officers, identified as Bishnu Daimary and Bikash Daimary, sustained injuries during the scuffle and were provided medical attention, police said.Authorities said the situation was brought under control and the three were arrested under appropriate sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and booked at Sonapur police station.“These three persons have been arrested and were forwarded to the local court on Monday. An investigation is currently underway,” the officer also added.
