Kolkata: Police on Wednesday arrested three persons in connection with the vandalism of a vehicle carrying BJP Bongaon North MLA Ashoke Kirtaniya’s family at Beldanga near Gopalnagar in North 24-Parganas on Tuesday evening.Acting on a complaint lodged by the MLA’s wife Moumita Kirtaniya, police arrested Soumen Adhikari. Two others — Ranjit Das and Abhijit Das — were later held over alleged counter-assaults following the incident. All three are residents of Beldanga under Gopalnagar police station and were produced before the Bongaon sub-divisional court on Wednesday.Police said counter-allegations emerged from both sides. Some residents claimed they stopped the vehicle after recognising it as the MLA’s and questioned the lack of development in the area. They further alleged that abusive remarks were made from inside the car and that a villager was struck on the hand, which triggered the vandalism.
